Video games can hold a hefty price these days. Sometimes, it almost feels like I need to start mowing lawns in my neighborhood just to be able to afford a new release! Sixty dollars for a popular new release can sure seem like a lot of money, but actually video games are a lot cheaper now than they ever were before (inflation). ‘Collectors’ Editions of popular new releases can even be a whopping four times the price of the disc itself! It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to play an enjoyable video game.
Here’s a list of the top 3 free games on the PlayStation Store. Lightly played, rated, and reviewed by yours truly:
3. WORLD OF TANKS:
“World of Tanks is a team-based massively multiplayer online action game dedicated to armo
ured* warfare. Throw yourself into the epic tank battles of World War II with other steel cowboys from all over the world. Your arsenal includes more than 220 armo ured vehicles from America, Germany, France and the Soviet Union, carefully detailed with historical accuracy.” (source)

In all honesty, World of Tanks is freaking awesome. You basically drive a tank & shoot at enemy tanks. I could imagine this game being insanely fun during PvP (Player vs. Player)! The best part is, you can run shit over! Trees, cars, and fences don’t even stand a chance when it comes to the tracks of your tank!
Now the controls are kind of weird to me, but there really is no way for the game-makers to fix that. You drive the tank with the left stick and you aim the artillery with the right stick. So if I want to turn left, the left analog stick goes to about 10:00 o’clock. I’m just used to turning my character with my right analog stick in basically every shooter game I normally play.
OVER-ALL RATING: 4 / 5 ★
2. HUSTLE KINGS:
“Hustle Kings is a pool video game developed by VooFoo Studios [had to make sure Wikipedia didn’t typo this… they didn’t]. The game features a career mode as well as various trick shot and tournament modes. The game also features online play allowing the user to compete against other players over the PlayStation Network.” (source)
Personally, I am a fan of playing pool in real life. My dad used to take my siblings and I to the billiards bar to teach us to play. Hustle Kings is a bit more intricate than I thought it would be! It is very easy to understand, especially if you follow the tutorial. The only part of the tutorial I failed multiple times, was the Jump-Shot. Although, I’m sure with more practice I could get better.
I could see myself playing Hustle Kings during a drunken night with friends. The music on the game is TERRIBLE, but the game-play itself is very relaxing.
OVER-ALL RATING: 3 / 5 ★
“Warframe is a free to play 3rd person shooter/hack and slash co-op game. It features the Tenno; a race of humanoids that wear armored suits that give them special powers. Warframe could be described as a combination of Mass Effect 3, Borderlands, and Bioshock Infinite. It features up to four player co-op missions where the players complete various objectives: these can range from rescuing prisoners, to holding down defensive points, to sabotaging enemy ships. The game uses random generated maps made up of various tile sets. The game has a parkour/wall running system that allows for various acrobatic maneuvers. There are two kinds of currency: in-game credits and platinum bought with real money.” (source)
The graphics on Warframe are amazing! This game is my husband’s personal favorite. I have watched him spend countless hours on this free game for years! I have tried playing it in the past myself, but never could seem to get into it. I am personally a fan of first-person shooters, so playing a third-person shooter is beyond frustrating. The character placement is off to the side of the screen, when I am not used to seeing the character during game-play at all.
Warframe is quite difficult to understand. At least, for me it is. I had to go through the Starter Guide on Warframe’s website and still couldn’t seem to understand how to play. I get the whole “point and shoot” thing, but what else do I do? How do I change characters? How do I get a gun instead of a damn bow?! I even had my husband co-op with me and still I never understood it. The game-play is right up my alley, which frustrates me because I want to learn it! This game is insanely complicated though! I keep anxiously waiting for that “aha!” moment where it all just kind of makes sense.
I love the parkour and fast paced aspect of Warframe. I think I would want to try harder to understand the game-play, if it wasn’t a third-person shooter.
OVER-ALL RATING: 3.5 / 5 ★
Edit: After a week of playing Warframe, I am going to update the rating to: 5 / 5 ★

Starting this blog post, I figured Warframe would be my favorite. I thought I would get completely addicted. I am still going to learn it, but I know it will take a lot of time and concentration. It turns out that I favor World of Tanks! There are plenty of enjoyable free games out there, you just need to find the one that you enjoy playing.
